The East Gallery will present an exhibition
by Kathleen de Rosas and Eric Larson. Last year, these two
artists were selected for Exhibition Awards by 2008 juror
Scott Shields. Unique sensibilities and unusual approaches
are prevalent in the work of both of these exciting new artists.
Ms. de Rosas’ sculpture/installations explore vulnerability
through working with the vessel and the human form. Using
various sensuous materials, dirt, beeswax, clay, thread, string,
and plaster, she expresses a vast geography concerned with
openness, ecstatic moments, and pain. Her juxtaposition of
the human form and natural materials creates a momentary,
gentle stillness in which viewers may pause and rest.
Eric Larson is a San Francisco artist who received his MFA
from California College of the Arts in 2004. He works primarily
in painting, sculpture, and installation. His mixed media
works often reflect a dizzying fascination with geometry,
which he renders in such a way that the viewer is unavoidably
drawn into the work. He has exhibited his work throughout
the Bay Area.
