The East Gallery
presents the 2011 Arts on Fire Awards Exhibition, featuring
works by 2011 award winners Timothea Campbell and Anne Subercaseaux,
who were awarded $250 plus this exhibition by Arts on Fire XV
juror Alison Gass, Assistant Curator of Painting and Sculpture at
the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
pieces are the intricately drawn Oaks #16 and Oaks
#17, with twining, delicate curlicues of branches and leaves,
all drawn in walnut ink on paper. Subercaseaux’s blue and green
oil paintings, Reflection: On Crossing XIV and Reflection:
On Crossing XXV, depict light and water seen in an abstracted
way. Both these artists have a gift for bringing an ineffable quality
of experience into the foreground and, in this way, talking about
the parts of life we often forget to notice and appreciate.
Sanchez Art Center is located at 1220 Linda Mar Blvd., 1.5 miles from Highway 1, in Pacifica, in the buildings with the colorful mural. Following the April 13 opening festivities, galleries are open to the public Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 1 to 5 pm, through May 20.
