STUDIO RENTAL PROGRAM
GENERAL INFORMATION
Sanchez Art
Center is a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation.
The Center operates an active artist workspace program,
whereby qualifying artists may rent affordable studio
space. |

SELECTION PROCESS: |
- Applications for
current vacancies are accepted on an ongoing basis
and reviewed as soon as possible. Otherwise, applications
are reviewed a maximum of every six months and a minimum
of once a year.
- Applications are
reviewed by a Studio Selection Committee. The committee
consists of 2 arts professionals or board members
and the Executive Director (who are voting members);
and 1 non-voting current studio artist.
- Waiting lists are
maintained for one year.

SELECTION CRITERIA: |
- Artistic medium of
applicant must contribute to maintaining a balance
of mediums represented at the Center. For instance,
a healthy range of medium includes, but is not limited
to: painting, ceramics, photography, and sculpture.
- Artistic medium of
applicant must be compatible with others sharing studio
space.
- Applicant artist's
resume and portfolio must demonstrate a commitment
to art making.
- Applicant must demonstrate
ability to perform volunteer duties (service hours)
to support the Center's programs and operations.
- Applicant must demonstrate
a commitment to use the studio space on a regular
basis.
- Applicant must have
satisfactory personal references and credit check.
- If more than 1 artist
qualifies for a space, preference will be given based
on Pacifica residency, date of application, and to
those artists who have not previously had studio space
at the Art Center.

SUMMARY OF TERMS: |
- Studios to be used
for original art making only. Excluded uses include
non-art-related meetings and production work.
- Teaching in studio
requires approval of Executive Director plus 5% of
tuition is to be paid to Sanchez Art Center.
- Sale of original
art is allowable.
- Artist shall commit
to Service Hours, based on studio size (Ex: each standard
size studio contributes 96 hours per year; hours per
artist are prorated based upon number of artists in
each space).
- At signing of Lease,
artist will deposit first month rent, last month rent,
and $100 security deposit.
- Artist shall maintain
an active City of Pacifica Business License (initial
processing fee is waived, annual fee is approximately
$40).
- Artist shall maintain
an active membership with the Art Guild of Pacifica
($25 per yr.).
- Artist shall participate
in a minimum of one Art Guild of Pacifica exhibition
per year.
- Studio Artists are
responsible for all repairs and maintenance to their
studios.
- All debris/garbage/recycling,
etc., must be disposed of by artist. SAC has no studio
collection service.
- The buildings are
not heated or air conditioned. Sinks in studios are
cold water only.
- Heaters requiring
the use of electricity are not allowed.
- Lease terms generally
run 2 years. Renewals are subject to Selection Committee
approval, but in no case may an artist remain longer
than 6 years. If an artist reaches the 6 year limitation,
and there is no waiting list, tenancy may revert to
month-to-month, based on Selection Committee approval.
However, SAC is required to advertise the space, and
at such time as a new tenant is selected, the artist
will be given 90 days notice to vacate the premises.

The
above represents a general sampling of the types of studio
spaces offered by SAC, subject to availability. Others
with small variances may also become available.
