The Main Gallery will feature a California
Printmakers exhibition juried by Simon Blattner.
This exhibition presents works on paper by artists from all over
California who use a variety of printmaking techniques such as etching,
lithography, monotype, intaglio, linocut, chine
colle, silkscreen and woodcut. With images that range from
elegant to humorous, the selected work shows the diversity of technical
and conceptual issues being addressed by contemporary printmakers. In
addition to the juried work, curator Simon Blattner
will present a suite of prints that beautifully illustrate the different
stages of the printmaking process.
Simon Blattner is
the publisher of Eastside Editions a fine arts press
editioning handmade paper prints. He is also
chair of the Board of the California College of Arts in San Francisco
and Oakland. He also serves on the Board of the Sonoma Valley Museum of
Art. Blattner apprenticed in handmade paper
making at Magnolia Editions in Oakland and has been interested in the
arts all of his life. His particular expertise includes all types of
prints and works on paper. He is a crafter of hand papermaking in both
Western and Japanese styles and he dedicates much of his time to the
creation of art in his East Side Editions studio.
Blattner will give a presentation and jurors discussion about
the California Printmakers exhibition on Thursday, November 11 at
7:00pm.
