About the Juror:
Scott
A. Shields holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in art history
from the University of Kansas. He has 15 years of professional
experience in museums in the Midwest and San Francisco
Bay Area and has curated numerous exhibitions and written
articles for various scholarly journals. In 2006, he
authored Artists at Continent’s End: The Monterey
Peninsula Art Colony, 1875–1907, which was published
by The University of California Press in conjunction
with a traveling exhibition, and was one of three primary
authors of an exhibition catalogue entitled Dark
Metropolis: Paintings by Irving Norman, published
by Heyday Books. In 2007 and 2008, exhibition catalogues
featuring early California painters Edwin Deakin and
Benjamin Chambers Brown will be published through Pomegranate
Books and the Pasadena Museum of California Art, respectively.
