Showing in the East
Gallery is the 20th Annual Art with Elders Exhibit, curated
by Brent H. Nettle of Eldergivers, a nonprofit organization whose
mission is to connect the generations and to support the ongoing
development of seniors, especially those who are in danger of being
sidelined and isolated in age-determined residences.
The Art with Elders (AWE) program is a response to the problem posed by Picasso when he said, “All children are artists. The problem is remaining an artist when you grow up.” The primary purpose of AWE is to encourage elder artists to take their art seriously and continue to grow and develop as artists.
The annual AWE exhibits travel to various Bay Area venues throughout the year. The program offers an opportunity for elders to express the wisdom and emotional truths they have garnered in a lifetime of work, love, and play, and it is our gain to be able to share in this culmination of their artistic skills and human experiences.
The 20th Annual
Art with Elders Exhibit opens Friday, June 1, with a reception
for the artists from 7 to 9 pm. Thereafter the galleries are open
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm, through the exhibit’s
close on July 1. Sanchez Art Center is located at 1220 Linda Mar
Blvd., Pacifica, California, about 1.5 miles east of Highway 1 and
the Pacific Ocean.
