The East Wing exhibit,
Impromptu, features a selection of quilts by Rag Tag Quilters,
ranging from small wall hangings to full-size quilts selected by
curator Tama Blough for their liveliness, originality, and use of
color. A variety of techniques are represented, including traditional
piecing, paper piecing, appliqué, folded piecing, thread painting,
and embellishment. The quilts are primarily made using machine methods,
with some handwork as well.
The quiltmakers of Rag Tag are Joyce Goode, Janet Mednick, Laureen Neilly, Julie Scribner, and Judy Woodfill of San Francisco; Juna Carle of Sonoma; Merrilyn Scott of Novato; and Tama Blough of Pacifica.
Impromptu
opens Friday, July 13, with a reception for the artists from 7 to
9 pm. Thereafter the galleries are open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
from 1 to 5 pm, through the exhibit’s close on August 12. Sanchez
Art Center is located at 1220 Linda Mar Blvd., Pacifica, California,
about 1.5 miles east of Highway 1 and the Pacific Ocean.
