We are delighted to welcome back to our East Gallery the Loom & Shuttle Guild, presenting 20/20: Woven Visions, an exhibition of handcrafted and handwoven textile artworks. Fashion, sculpture, wearable art, weaving for the home, and fine craft made by members of the Loom & Shuttle Guild will be displayed, reflecting a wide range of techniques and skills. The exhibition includes colorful woven scarves, shawls, and bags; wonderfully crafted jackets and other pieces of clothing; table runners, tapestries, baskets, and stitched textiles. In addition to the 2-D wall-hung artworks, there are some amazing and beautiful 3-D pieces. As an added perk, you can chat with a weaver in the gallery on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
The Loom & Shuttle Guild, a San Francisco weaving guild founded in 1948, draws participants from all over the Bay Area. Members come not only from textile, fine art, and fashion careers, but from a diversity of fields such as music, teaching, technology, graphic design, writing, architecture, nursing, law, science, and more. Many artists have been weaving for decades, and many show their work in local and national exhibits. The guild's purpose is to promote high standards of weaving, to stimulate public interest in and appreciation for handweaving and fiber art, and to offer educational opportunities. New members continue to join the guild to expand their knowledge about the art and craft of weaving.
The exhibition runs through Sunday, August 9, 5pm.
